Am I oversized for what I have?
So its a 90 stock atm, have not lifted it yet and I am running the original axels still. But I was given a used set of 31x10.5r15. My consern is how long till I snap an axel with the oversized tires and when I slap them in I plan to cut the fenders and eventually lift about 4 inches.
Next thing is how big can one go on the original axels till its a known stress point and u start striping the gears and completely shelling goods?
I know its just part of the fun, but my wife has me on a very tight jeep budget so i have to play nice or trade her for a nice one.

i have 2 tj's on 33's with stock d35 and my xj has 36's on stock d30/d44 locked. just don't try to squeal the tires on the street and you'll be fine.

The width has something to do with it as well. At 10.5 you might be ok... just don't go to the wider tires or taller tires. If you start hopping around trying to make it up a hill back off the gas. If your tires leave the ground and get some momentum to them... when they touch the ground again and bind up is when you will be breaking stuff. Or of course trying to burn the tires on pavement would do it too.
I am not too familiar with XJ's, but weren't there some late 80's XJ's with D44's in the back? Find one of those and trade it for your D35.
