Default am i missing a rear sway bar

I decided to remove my sway bars this morning...the front came off real easy but as i went to the back i couldn't find anything that looked like a sway bar! the only thing down there are the U bolts, leaf springs, and the axle going across. did the 91 xj not come with one? or maybe the PO took it off when they did the lift.

I wouldn't worry about having it anyway. The rear swaybar is worthless on XJ's.

Default trash it

my rear sway bar made a lot annoying noise. I put new bushings and end links on and it still clunked around. I took it off and tossed it and I'd never know its gone except that the annoying thump is gone with it.

No! Keep the front, it does a ton more work than the rear. Many will say driving on the road without the front one is very dangerous. I can tell quite a bit of difference when my front is disconnected.

all it is is body roll because the sway bar isnt pre loading the front springs because it isnt connected. No big deal, You'll probabaly perfer the ride without it, I noticed it rides better without the front. Just don't go racing civics around corners at 90 mph and you'll be fine.

I would hate to be the family in the other car when the xj with the front sways removed hits the corner a bit faster than they expected, or swerves to avoid something and can't recover. Why remove it for a dd, and if you wheel with it too, disconnects allow you to do both. If it isn't on the road at all is the only time I would run nothing in the front at all.

Oh good god yet another sway bar thread. Run with or without and don't race your xj around like a racecar. I run without one in the front I haven't died nor have I killed anyone I also don't hate my family (hear that one too from a cf member ). Plenty of deer and stupid drivers here as well learn to not swerve problem solved.

I agree lol. I just learn that not everyone has the common sense driving that is necessary to run without it. Just curious but if you remove the sway bar and you cause an accident probably due to that, are you more liable than with it connected?

Depend who has a better lawyer. Any modifications beyound stock makes you more liable during an accident. That includes lifts, bigger tires etc. If you remove the sway bar make sure it doesn't look like something hoody broke remove it and 99% of people won't know. If you are really freaked out a sway bar increase the spring rate twofold by making the coils act as one. Run a stiffer coil that will remove the difference.

One night in pouring rain AND some fog doen about 50 I came across some cows in the road. Black and white..Jerzy? anyway Black and white there was perfect camo. Was RIGHT on them. That Jeep shot left, right, left and I was shocked. Missed all 5 or 6? of them. They where all but behind me before I knew what happened. Had no idea that old Jeep could do that. A pretty good bet that would have been pretty grizzley without a sway bar.
