Default alternator wont come out...

tryin to replace my alternator. 91 xj 4.0 auto a/c. I got all the wires off and the 2 bolts that hold it in place. the problem is i cant get it out of the engine compartment. i can spin the alternator completely around but i cant just pull it out. it looks like if i remove the 8 or so nuts and bolts that the alternator attaches to i could get it or if i remove the fan and radiator i could get it. it just seems like theres gotta be an easy to just slide it out like it should. please help...

slide it back towards the back of the jeep and it should be able to drop down

take your battery out and it'l make it a much more pleasant experience

Take out the battery and tray as stated. Then you should be able to wiggle it out of the top. Also, if it's still a tight fit, you can jack of the engine slightly to get a little more room. But remember to put a block of wood on the jack so you don't crunch the oil pan.

I replaced my alternator on my old 92 and I ended up disconnecting the ac lines (which had already leaked out completely) and moving them to get the alternator out.

Thats how I got mine out. It was still a PITA but I had the old one out and new one in in about 1.5hrs. Now that I have done it before I'm sure it would take me half that time.
