Default alternator repacement issues

ok so im replacing the alternator in my 96 xj and i cant get the damn belt off.... i have a jack and screw on the tensioner but its not releasing the belt and the write up does not give enough info can anyone help or have some insight on how to get the belt of?

did you loosen the bolt in the center of the tenisoner pulley?

on mine u can untighten the power steerin unit and thats it!

There's a bolt to the bottom left of the power steering pump you need to loosen and a pulley too. Here's a picture to help you out. http://users.ices.utexas.edu/~carsten/jeep/t1.png Loosen, but don't remove, Bolt C in front of the electric fan first, then loosen bolt A until the belt is loose. I broke my Bolt A when I did my alternator, but got a new one from the junkyard for free. Let me know if you have any problems. I did my alternator a few months ago.

when i did my alternator i didnt even touch the belt adjustment. pulled the alt off which belt went limp after. put alt back in pushed down a bit to tighten belt bolted in. there you go

yes...that locks the Tensiner down...because that whole pulley slides up and down when you adjust the big bolt..
