Default Alternator pulley help

So I started my sisters xj that has been sitting for a couple months and I heard a terrible squeal and smoke come from the belts. I took off the belt to check if the pulleys were all spinning. Once I got it off I found the alternator pulley was not spinning. Can I replace the pulley? or do I have to get a whole new alternator? Thanks

Try pulling the alt and cleaning it. Might just have gotten junk in it and got it in a bind. If it still won't spin you'll need to replace it. Now you got it pulled out and ready to core swap.

^x2^ its not just a pulley their is a bering in there that is bad or locked up. A new one from AutoZone is not that much.

If you are gonna have more lights or stereo or other electrical addons in your Jeep, you may consider getting a beefier alt now since it is only a little bit more $ and a tiny bit of work.

It is rumored that with just a bit of modding, the Dodge Durango alts fit in Cherokees with a big up in amps, 136 amps.
