Hey got a 94 and recently my alternator hasn't been "turning on" when i start the truck i have to pop the hood. press on the back of the alternator to get it to start charging. it will then stay on as long as the trucks running. If i shut the truck off and restart it i will have to do it again. i have a check engine light. so i checked it at school and it says something along the lines of generator switch open or shorted. idk what to do or what the problem is. its getting cold and dont want to have to keep doing this. any ideas?

 

Time for a new one, or have the one you got rebuilt,If you have it rebuilt you can have them beef it up ( higher output).

 

Make sure it's not a wire your moving when you press on it. Also I recently had one on my little dozer that wasn't grounding. Gave me a fit finding that as it was bolted on!
