So I bought a new alt a year or so ago and mysteriously after a year of wheeling the bearings are howling. It still has good elec output and I would like to know if anybody has regreased thiers? What kind of grease should I use? How much of a PITA should I expect this to be? And yes I did search before posting this.
I thought they were sealed. Its been awhile since ive been in one. You can get the bearings from a place that rebuilds them. Split the alternator, mark it where it is clocked at. you will also need a big paper clip or something to hold the brushes back when you out it back together. Be careful knocking the bearing out, you can crack the case half if its to hard and not supported
