Hey guys, I just bought my xj a few weeks ago, and I had to tear out the carpet last night because it was so disgusting.

I am thinking of bed lining it (not sure which brand yet), and just wanted to ask if anyone has done anything else? I guess the only other alternative is to re-carpet? Or?....I looked at a few sites and it's like $200+. Any way to do it cheaper? Is it better to just bed line it? I'm looking at the Raptor kits which will run about $110 + prepping materials, so pretty close to carpet.

I think bed lining it would be good while still keeping things relatively cheap

 

Don't know for sure about Cherokees, but there are some companies that make rubber liners for wrangers. You might do a search online to see whats available for xjs.

 

Bedlining requires a lot of prep work. If the surface is not properly prepped you will get flaking and peeling, and water will gather in these areas accellerating the rusting out of your floor pan. Bedliner does work great if applied properly, however, but plan on pulling all the seats out and putting in some elbow grease!

 

Thanks for the replies guys! My truck is totally gutted out right now (at least all seats, console, carpet). The prep work is what I'm kind of afraid of, and the applying. I've been reading it's a SOB. But I'm down to put the work in.

Also, how is it in the winter? Does it make the cab a lot colder?

 

All I can speak of is the headliner, which made my Jeep a lot colder. I would have to think that the carpet being removed would do the same thing. One thig is for sure, it will MUCH louder in the cab of your XJ. If that is OK, then I say line it, because if it gets mucked up, you can spay it out.
