Ok, so myself and one the techs at my shop have been working on alternative fuel idea's for our vehicle's, we got some instructions for a hydrogen fuel cell off the internet and decided to give it a go.
The idea is nothing new and is very simple to make, the one we have been experimenting will probably cost $150.00 when all finished.
The principle is simple, i will post the link at the bottom of the page for you all to read, the creator of this cell (Jerry Dossey) has one fitted to his jeep 4.0 and is averaging 27 or more mpg.
We took our cell and fitted it to a 97 honda accord 2.2 which averages 29mpg, after a week of testing we found we were getting around 50 mpg.
This is a basic explanation of how it works,The electrical charge going into the water disperses the hydrogen , we have a hose running from the fuel cell, through a spark arrestor and into the intake tube that runs to the throttle body, the vacumn from the throttle body draws the hydrogen into the motor, the hydrogen is not enough to run the engine on its own (we are working on that though), it is tricking the pcm into thinking it is running too rich so the pcm leans the mixture out, the hydrogen is making up for the lean mixture of course.
We so far have not had any lean codes fired to the pcm. this is a works in progress, its still early stages, it does work for sure, but...... there is a downside that we are still trying to work on..... internal engine corrosion

Here is the link with the instructions, if you choose to make one of these, please be careful, hydrogen can be........ a great alternative fuel

What are your initial thoughts on trying to alleviate the corrosion issues you're experiencing?? We have seen this several times, in other forms, and they all do not have this ironed out yet. Thanks for your research, we need all the help we can get with the ridiculous way they're gouging our fuel prices!!

well, our findings are that eventually the water does get hot and will produce some steam, two things happen.
1. steam is not good based on the fact that moisture gets drawn into the engine and will eventually corrode your valves and exhaust.
2.we found that the moisture builds up in the hose and blocks the hydrogen gas from entering the intake.
some will say you need to fit stainless valves and a stainless exhaust, we say we are working on some kind of moisture trap between the fuel cell and the intake to prevent corrosion.

Thats something along the lines of where we are going. its a simple fix, just trial and error now.
i also found this , this is cool!

I have posted that link in a couple of forums.
Seems to be the easiest way around the interal corrosion problem...get rid of the internal combustion...hahahaha
