The brake lamp switch is different for the '99 than the one shown in Cruiser54's pic. Yours is non-adjustable after initial installation.

The TCM for a '97 XJ won't work. In '98 a second transmission speed sensor was introduced so the TCM will be looking for the inputs from both the Input Speed Sensor and the Output Speed Sensor.

The TCM from a '98 thru '01 XJ will work. OEM part number 56041 386

Thank you man! So if the brake is not adjustable I guess I'de either have to replace the whole thing or that is not the problem huh? and thanks for the link.
