Default alt change now wont start

92 cherokee changed the alt. now it wont start . Every thing comes on when i turn the key on but it wont crank the starter over ,it not gretting juice to the small post on the selinoid. Could i have gottin a bad alt. ? Does curent go throught the alt before it gets to the starter? Anyone have any ideas as to what happened. Oh also the next day after i installed the alt the batt. was dead . Didnt have any problems with these things before this.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. Check your wires and check your fuses.

Would start even with a bad alt. right after you put it in. You messed up something go back over everything you touched might have touched etc. You did unhook the battery while doing this so you didn't short anything out when unbolting the alt. and hit metal with the wrench right?
