That's a 8.25 Chrysler, if I'm not mistaken.....

Yep 8.25 the flat part on the bottom is one way to tell. The D35 is more round on the bottom.

As mentioned the flat bottom is the easiest way to tell an 8.25. I have trained my eyes to identify axles on the street. Around here about 75% of XJs have 8.25, 23% have a turdy five, 1% aftermarket custom (8.8), and I have seen one 87 wagoneer with the factory D44. I wanted it so bad

One other question...

What's is the gear ratio for a 2000 c8.25?
And will I have to re-gear when I put on 31"s?

I looked at the chart but I'm not sure if it's necessary. I still don't want to lose any mpg

if its auto, should be 3.55. You will lose a little mpg, but not really worth the 1000-1500+ to regear the front and rear

It is an auto. That's how much to regear? Any cheaper way?

If you have all the special measuring tools required to competently change the gears yourself, parts will still probably be a minimum of $750-800 IF you can reuse the carriers.

Well it looks like I'm sticking with 3.55 gears. Should that be a prob w/ 31's?

no you will have no problems running 31s on stock gears maybe a slight loss in Mpg but thats about it

Is this a 35 or an 8.25. Without a side by side comparison it's difficult for me to know for sure. I would guess the 35, since there's no pronounced flat bottom as indicated in previous posts.
