Default aisin 30-43le transmission fluid change problem

I have a 1997 Cherokee with the 4.0 the aisin 30-43le auto trans and a np231 transfer case. I removed the drain plug on the bottom of the transmission pan and after it drained i put the plug back in...now it won't tighten. It just keeps spinning. It's slightly tight but not a lot. Is there a nut inside welded on the pan that could have broken of and is now just spinning with the plug or what?
Thanks

If it keeps spinning then the nut on the inside probably broke loose. You won't know for sure until you drop the pan itself.

Can you take a picture of the pan? Are the threads on the drain plug stripped?

Nope. Replace the plug with a new one.

Aisen-Warner purposely made the plug to be softer metal than the pan, so if you stripped it you wouldn't have to pull the pan.

Probably shoulda inspected the plug threads and saved yourself a bunch of hassle.
