Smile Aisin 30-40LE won't shift into any gear

I just replaced my NP242 transfer case with a rebuilt one. Now I can't get the transmission to shift into any gear and the transfer case seems to stay in 2WD or Part Time 4WD. I've tried a different configurations with the 4WD shift linkage. I have a couple of questions. First, can the transfer case keep the transmission from going into park? Second, what things could go wrong with the transmission while swapping the transfer case? I could use some direction on how to start trouble shooting these problems. The transmission I have is an Aisin 30-40LE which seems to be the same thing as an AW4. Something else to note is that the engine will turn over and run with the gear selector in neutral but not in Park. I am pretty sure this has something to do with the NSS.

there is thread that gives detail on AW4 year compatibility, and mentions among other things, the output shaft spline number changed from from 1990 on, which may affect

dont have the link sorry

That transfer case isn't gonna want to shift sitting still. Does the Jeep move at all?

@AWG thanks for the heads up. Ill look for the thread.
@cruiser54, the main problem I am having is that the transmission was in "N" when I removed the transfer case and, now that I've installed the new one, the transmission won't shift into any gear. The transfer case shows that it is in 4WD Part Time, indicated by the Part Time light illuminated on the dash. The jeep will move but only if I push it, as it is in neutral. I am going to inspect the transmission shifter linkage because I think it may have been pulled out of adjustment by me lowering the drive train to remove and install the transfer case. Any other suggestions?
