Default Air filter question

I just changed my air filter and O man. where the intake hose from the air filter housing is there was like 3 tablespoons of oily dirt. It was weird because the dirt was sitting on top of the filter, and the airflow direction makes it seem like that dirt would be sitting on the other side. Has anyone ever seen this before? obviously I should have changed my filter a while ago, so don't chide me on that. Thanks ya'll

Pcv valve may be bad. I had the same thing happen on my 91. I just took the hose off. Too lazy to fix it right.
