I am looking for a new quality air filter that will boost power and increase mileage, that is inexpensive, and won't buttf*** my engine. Help please

I don't think that is really significant, you only start getting performance differences with a "cold air" intake, and the effectiveness of those is somewhat questionable. If you want to eliminate the airbox and that flat filter, you could get one of those aftermarket round filters, but I have no experience there.

Yeah a new air filter of any kind won't affect mileage or horsepower all too much. If you want that big a difference, throw on a snorkel

Basically relocates the point that air is taken in to like the top of the windshield. Makes for better, cleaner air which in turn will give you much better throttle response. And I've heard it gives your car a nice growl when accelerating. I'm not talking from experience though. Go onto any website like 4wheelparts.com and search "safari snorkel" for a better explanation. It's pricey but I'm definitely going to be doing this in the future

I hate my local 4wheelparts. Bunch of idiots. They asked what Cherokee model I had when I said XJ Cherokee Classic. Plus I was wrong for not knowing my car when they ordered the wrong u-joint. Sorry, I hate them, but I will look into a snorkel when I get my XJ dialed in

Haha completely understand. I was just saying to go on their or a website like it to just read up on it and learn more about it, not to buy from them. I think it'd be a great investment in the future

Being myself, when I add a snorkel, I might as well make my XJ airtight so I can drive it on the ocean floor too. Haha

CAI's are'nt questionable in my opinon/experience. I put a CAI on mine (4 banger) with a heat shield, and it was a great power change *although the change was more noticeable being a 4 banger and all) But my point is, it DOES help. However.... If you plan on goin through some mud or wheeling all the time, i would leave it be or go the snorkel route..

I have no problem with the stock filter except blowing mice out the front grille backfiring.

I'm going to have to agree with the cold air intake. On my previous car I had a CAI and when I threw it on, there was a noticeable difference. I have a CAI coming in the mail right now that should be here in the next couple days. I think it's a big upgrade from stock, and from what I've heard, a snorkel is a big upgrade from that

Some people route the intake to the cowl and use a cone filter for a true CIA and a semi snorkel. Plus you dont notice anything until you open hood

Well when done correctly you can have a "true" CAI. With a properly made heat shield (which you can fabricate yourself) there is a noticeable difference. For instance, my friend had a rustys intake on his (was just a cone open in the engine bay) and he and I built a heat shield for it to pull air behind the headlight, and it gave a noticeable difference.

I put an AFE cold intate on mine. Really made a difference in midrange Gave it a deeper sound also. Paid something like 250$. Came with a thick heat shroud n a pretty blue cone filter. Id say it was a very good investment but the snorkel would be much colder air n better all around. Def looking into one
