Default Air Conditioner Clutch Troubleshooting -- NOISY

Ok so here's the deal, I am getting a noise from my AC Compressor Clutch.

The AC blows ICE CUBES - it's that cold so I don't wanna really mess with the system however I am getting a noise. Kind of a 'chattering' noise if that makes sense.

AC Compressor Cycles - ON there is no chatter.

AC Compressor Cycles - OFF the chatter begins.

Are we talking about just a bad bearing, or the entire clutch assembly?

My first thought is just the bearing, but the more I overthink this it might be the clutch assembly.

Any ideas?

Thanks

In all honesty, at the price for parts and time consumption to repair your compressor, your better off getting a new unit entirely. Either way your going to have to open the system, so your going to need to evac & recharge the system when done. Replace the expansion valve and drier while your at it.

You have to open the system just to replace the clutch assembly?

I thought it just bolted up to the front of the compressor?

I was referring to removing the assembly itself for repair, sorry.

Whew!

I'm just looking to diagnose the noise.

As to repair I have two options at this point ...

1) Replace bearing ( $30 )
2) Replace Clutch Assy W/Bearing ( $220 )

It's not noisy all the time, it's only noisy when the clutch is not engaged.

Default pin hole air conditioner leak..

I am a newbie -is this the only way to post a new tread? lol
I know it's late in the year-but all at once I got a leak( I had freon put in 3 times and dye and they never found the leak (late summer)so I never went back--my air is freezing cold when it works-I never had any trouble with it(until) -just one day it started blowing hot air in the late summer-its takes around 2 weeks for it to leak out ...Any good ideals what to check first? Should I wait till summer to get it fixed.. Thanks

I had the same problem with my ac on my 98 XJ. All I did was go to Walmart and pick up a can of AC sealer. They had 3 different types 2 in the smaller cans and one in a large can. I tried the smaller can and it still leaked out in 2 weeks then I broke down and bought the large can. If I remember correctly it was about $25. I put it in at the beginning of summer and it is still holding and blows really cold.
