Default Aiming Headlights

So I got my HID installed, and the housings I got are horrible, absolutely no beam pattern. So I'm thinking of getting the Hella 200mm E-Code housings.

I realize that these are illegal, but from everywhere I've heard, as long as you aim them correctly, they will not blind anybody.

How exactly do you aim the headlights? If I do purchase the Hellas, I will want to aim them, but I don't know how.

I saw something on wikianswers or something about aiming them, but it was confusing to me. Please if somebody could explain it, I need help!

take the plastic housing off so the headlight is exposed. there is a screw on the top of the light that moves the light up and down. and one on the side, which moves it left and right. it's not a normal screw, i think its a torx bit, but i could be wrong. but anyways, just go somewhere dark, maybe where you can shine the lights on a wall, and just fiddle with the screws.

Yes, use a wall or a garage door to make sure your lights are pointing where you want them. Pull up to about 6' or so from the door/wall, set your lights then back up to about 12' or so and make sure there where you want them, then back up to about 20' or so and see where there aiming. This is just what I do. Its also good when its foggy because you can see exactly where there aiming.

headlights should be aimed about waist high. use the pattern on teh wall as mentioned above.

or just take it to a shop. they have the correct aiming scopes.

Get an unlucky friend to drive past you a few times. :P

Garage doors, walls, foggy nights, anything to benchmark.

Sorry, didn't notice your question, I got them off rallylights.com, here is the exact link describing them: http://rallylights.com/Hella_200mm_H4_Headlamps.aspx

If you want to purchase them, you have to go to the link at the bottom of the page that does NOT say Vision Plus. Vision Plus isn't as good, but they are legal.

Last question, I got my bezel off, and was playing around with the torx screws, and was wondering, do I just keep turning the screw counterclockwise to point the light down, and is it possible for me to screw it to far and for the screw to come off?

You can turn it far enough to take it off, but it'll be looking at the ground far before that (as in like about 2' in front of the heep), you should be able to see the nut just inside the hood directly behind the top of the headlight. Also, I don't have to take the bezel off to adjust mine, just a thought there.

As for the no beam pattern, just try to get the furthest point of the beam (before it starts fading really fast) about 60' out or so, maybe a little further in.

I didn't have to take the bezel off either, but it's just 2 screws, and makes the adjustment screws easier to get to.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: Just for informational purposes to anybody else, the screws are in fact torx screws, using a T-15 Torx Screwdriver is recommended to prevent stripping.

Remember to adjust it left/right as well, my right headlight actually points a little further and out more than the left one to help me see the road lines and stuff a little better in the dark, also lets me get a little more reach without making people the other way mad.

guess i should've read more carefully. i thought you said headlights.

as for the driving lights, yeah, you can just turn the adjusting bolt at the back. turn them out to aim down.

i just replaced mine with some procomp units. i just reused my stock mounts but did away with the adjusting bolt.

they are so bright, i keep getting flashed.
