Default IAC valve question

Had a idle issue and went to remove and clean the IAC valve. When I removed it the stem/plunger fell out from inside of it. The stem part has what looks like threads (maybe they are ribs) goes into the plastic part but it really does not screw in but can press in. Well after this still has a idle issue but worse now.

I'm guessing best to replace the IAC valve since it fell apart internally. Anyone had good luck with a aftermarket one instead of the dealership one? Thanks!

IAC (Idle Air Controller)

Yes, you should replace it now.

I used a Standard Motor Products IAC about 2 years ago and it has been fine for that last 40k miles (no issues).

I've had a SMP IAC on my '96 for ~7 years with no problems. Got it at Rock Auto.

Got the Standard Motor Products one from Amazon and installed it today. But had to remove battery and carry it to parts store since per my tester my battery is bad but of course parts store since its under warranty still they got to charge it up and do their own tests so will be tomorrow before I get a chance and see if it now idles.

Just wanted to say the Standard Motor Products one from Amazon worked fine and don't know why but with the new IAC and new battery my oil pressure shot up by 20 psi as now idles at 40psi...Guess the jeep got happy!
