Exclamation AHHH! Transfer Case Swap Questions

So if any of you have been following some of my threads, I'm lifting, swapping in a Dana 44, and swapping in a 231 with a SYE already installed into my 98 XJ AW4.

Got the first two completed but ran into a snag this morning when trying to install the new SYE tranfer case. Apparently, the SYE TC I have is from an AX15 tranny that has the longer input shaft. I have the 231 with the medium input shaft. So, what are my options. How easy is it to move the SYE from one case to the other? Is it as simple as unbolting the housing, pulling it out and bolting it back in?

Another option, is it possible to have a machine shop chop .4" off the longer input shaft without removing the shaft from the case? I really don't want to crack open the case if possible, it intimidates me.

So the tcase just wont fit into the trans? Ive never had this issue but I have a ax15. But you can either swap the SYE or swap the inputs around, np231's are pretty simple. Just need a decent set of snap ring pliers
