A nice cowl intake should help it breathe better. The 4.0 is basicly a 50s tractor engine designed to run forever not make a ton of power. If you have gone up in tire size regearing it can make it feel faster.

Yep. There are a lot of things you can do, but they just aren't going to make a huge difference. It's putting lipstick on a pig.
If you want a lot more power, you need to look at dropping in a different engine, something like a 350 Chevy.
But then you have more power than the transmission can handle, so you need a Chevy transmission to go with it.
Now your transfer case can't handle the power, so you need a beefed up transfer case.
Now your differentials cant handle....
See where this is going?
If you are made of money, this looks like fun:

Just for fun, I priced one on their website. It came to something like 11 grand for the engine and trans.

I would skip the 4.3 and go for a 350,The price vs power a small block is hard to beat. The 4.3 is ok but kinda slow in a s10 and the efi on it is tricky to make any power out of it.On the trans if its a trail jeep only turbo 400 if you want to daily drive it 700r4/4l60.Then you got what t case to use the options depend your tire size and how you will use the jeep.
