Default After replacing fuel tank- will crank but not start

After replacing my old, leaking fuel tank, my 1994 cherokee will not start. It will crank but not run. I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and it is getting no pressure. The pump is getting power and after attempting to start and removing the fuel hoses, one of them has fuel in it.

Any ideas? It seems to me the fuel pump is OK since one of the hoses connected to the fuel sending unit has fuel in it after cranking. however the (fuel return hose?) doesn't have any fuel in it.

Please help!

Sounds dumb but make sure you have them connected right.

It's hooked up right- they make fail proof because the 2 hoses leaving the fuel sending unit are different sizes- wiring harness for fuel pump is hooked up..

Can you hear the pump actually kicking on when turned to on position?

Press the schrader valve on the rail and have a buddy kick turn the ignition to on. Any gas coming out? Watch out it can fly every where.

I hear a click after a brief delay that I am convinced is the fuel pump. As for the schrader valve- I hooked a fuel pressure gauge up to it and it reads 0 when cranking but I suppose tomorrow I could try your method as well. I assume nothing would come out because the gauge is reading 0.

you either have a bad pump. Or your fuel filter is clogged up or installed backwards.

did you change out the fuel pump relay?

my opinion sir, good luck.

no pressure at the rail

1. Bad Fuel Pump
2. No power going to pump
3. or both...

Pinch off the return hose and try it again.

If still no fuel, you have dead pump bad relay, blown fuse etc.

Its not getting fuel.

You said you could hear the relay click, but can you actually hear the pump hum when turned to on? Stand by the fuel door and listen.

We rebuilt a wrecked 2000 for my son, could here the pump pumping but it is hung by some junky plastic thing that broke in the accident (maybe a safety feature) and all it did was pump fuel back into the tank. had to take the pump out to find the problem, don't know if older ones are like that.
