Default Advice from the Professionals....

Hey folks I recently just purchased my 4th XJ. its a 2001 Limited XJ(2WD).
The guy I bought it from was running 245/70/16 highway tires on it. Now this will be my everyday driver but I also want it to have a more rugged appearance as well.

The 245s don't rub at all, but the Jeep looks like a low rider because there's not much clearance between the fender and the top of the tires. I've purchased a Supreme Suspension 2" lift(budget style) and would love to run 31s on it but I'm kinda torn to be honest.

Should I go ahead and install the 2" lift and opt for 31s or go without the lift and buy smaller tires like a 235/70/16 and add black wheels?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated !

fitting 31's with a 2" budget lift might be hit or miss. Does the budget lift come with add a leafs or shackles for the rear? If the rear leafs are worn then putting an add a lead in there wont do much good and the rear tires may rub. In the picture they don't look horrible.

The 245/70s on it now come out to be about 29.5" tall. The factory size is usually closer to 29". Also if you want to go 31's you'll probably have to get new wheels unless you get a metric 31". 31" tires for a 16" rim are hard to find. I don't know if I've seen any actually. You can find them in 15" all day long.

31s will fit with a 2" lift. My girlfriend has hers with that setup but with trimmed fenders

Thanx for the advice guys ! I opted to NOT use the 2" budget lift(not a wheeler) and went with some 235/70/16 Grabber AT2 tires. Pictures to follow.
