Default Adjusted ignition switch, worked, then stopped? Need help.

Ok heres my dilemma.
I was trying to take out the ignition switch, had a hard time so i decided to just drop the steering column, well drop it a couple of inches.
So when i was taking off the adjustment screws, i decided to give it a try so i adjusted it a bit and turned the key and boom worked like a charm.

So i tightened and kept kept turning off the jeep and turning it on again, so i thought problem was fixed.
But when i bolted up my steering column, i turned the key over and no crank
Damn it. So ima go run and get a new igniyion switch, but my question is, could it be something else?
I mean it worked for five minutes and then i moved the column up and stopped. maybe i moved something around?
Help Please

its completly possible. when you dropped the column you may have pulled a harness. the problem may have not been the switch at all. try to duplicate the situation. you'll have to drop the column again anyway.

true. look for anything related to the ignition switch and the wires going to it. check all the plugs to make sure they are all the way together and check each wire in them. if for some reason a wire is loose and not making a good connection, it will build heat causing it to get worse until it finally breaks the connection. by moving the column you may have temporarily reconneted that wire.

you may need a wiring diagram to help you with this. Haynes manual has it in the back of the book. you need to find out if you are getting power to the switch and out of when you turn the key to the start position. i suppose all of your other key activated systems work, its only when you go to the start position. you'll have to do some probing with a test light to see if power is to the start wire.
