I just put a 4.5" rough country lift on my 01 xj. I was about to order an adjustable track bar and drop pitman arm. My guy that is going to align the front end said it would be better to have these.
Will any brand adjustable track bar work?

 

yes but rough country makes one and its for sale at some site for 80 bucks or so instead of hte normal 180ish.
search for it and look for a thread i started because i was looking for hte site 3 weeks ago as i have a 5" on now.

You don't need the pitman arm, untill you lift over 6". Any adjustable Trackbar will work, some are better than others. Cut for most of us it comes down to price anyway. You can get a Rough Country bar off Ebay for like $54 plus shipping. No reason to pay for an alignment dio it yourself, good write-up here, http://go.jeep-xj.info/

Ok cause the guys at the shop said it would be better to have the track bar and pitman arm. still new to all the lift stuff, so figuring it out as i go along

 

So I dont really need the new pitman arm? What exactly does the pitman arm do. I saw a post the other day, someone had a pic on the thread with all the front end parts labeled. But i forgot to save the image.

I just bought a Rough Country 3" lift with the control arms. I have heard that I have to now buy an adjustable track bar. Is this true or can I get away without it? I won't be doing any serious off roading. Just some occasional stuff and bad weather driving.

 

Do it right or don't do it at all.

 

To answer without being a jerk, you will be fine without it. However, the axle will be pushed to the driver's side an inch or so.

 

Don't even suggest that. Nobody should go that route. Do it right and get a quality adjustable track bar. Do NOT go Rough Country brand either, I've been seeing lots of pictures lately of them snapped in half. You don't want that happening to you

Same think happened to my rustys bar on my TJ. I'm glad it happened pulling out of my driveway before I got on the hiway to make a 30 mile commute to work

 

I agree with above regarding rough country and rusty.

I need to replace my own track bar myself too, I plan to order rock krawler's bomb proof adjustable track bar.
A lot of people recommend IRO and Clayton.
