Opened up the hood vent on my 95 xj to see if that was the cause of water leaking onto passenger side floor. Definitely water not coolant getting inside the cab. Have had issues with water coming in through windshield but I think that has been fixed. Anyway, noticed this cluster of insulation on the driver side inside the hood vent space. Is this on purpose or is it just a nasty mouse nest?
also having water drip through the passenger side accessory handle shown below. Could be water making its way along the panels from the trunks gasket? Idk..thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have experienced similar issues I would appreciate your inputs. Thanks
Pic 1. I have never seen insulation tucked into the cowl like that. That is the wiper linkage, yes? It looks like an unbroken pad of insulation. I dont see a mouse getting that in there. If it were a mouse nest, it would be chewed up (they like to chew), with poop scattered around. I dont see any of that. My 97 doesnt have any insulation in there.
Pic 2. Do you have a roof rack? If so, water may be getting past the inserts in the roof. But yes, it could be getting in elsewhere and running along the roof and ending up around the grab handle. Only way to know is to start pulling things off and look for any signs of intrusion. Or rusted spots. All it takes is a pinhole. Check the drip rail along the roof as well. Doublecheck the windshield to be sure any previous fixes are still holding.
fb97xj1, thank you for the input. That is the wiper linkage yes. Going to take it out, looks like it’s causing more bad than good. I do have factory racks, thread receivers inside the cab look sealed but I have some bubbling rust spots on the roof. Think it’s time to strip the roof and put some monster liner up there.
