Default Acts like it goes in neutral when shifting

Okay guys! I'm truly stumped. I have a 2000 jeep Cherokee sport 4wd in line 6 4.0 L. I'm having trouble shifting into higher gears (2nd and 3rd) It drives fine but then after about 10 min into the ride it just goes dead. You put your foot on the gas and my RPMs just fly up without the jeep actually going anywhere. It acts like the transmission slipped. So I put it in park, shut it off and turn it back on. Runs fine. Shifts into drive, reverse etc. seems like it resets it's self, like the PCM is bad or something. But then as soon as I drive it for a minute, it starts doing it again. Shut it off, restart it, shift into drive and it takes off. Anyone have any suggestions?
