Have you listened under the hood? Your compressor is likely the source of noise.

Is it a tap or a click. A does it click every several seconds like click on click off. XJ compressors aren't quiet like other cars

Just curious: In what respect are XJ compressors not quiet, particularly as respects tapping or clicking? Or or you referring to the overall system?

The compressor. Many cars I'm in, you don't hear compressor from inside cabin. It cycles on and off. Maybe cause of where it is in engine bay idk. It isn't a bad sound at all nor unbearable. Just noticeable

AC Compressors will cycle I think every 45 secs - something like that. That is normal.

If it is a continuous click, then as said in previous thread, probably your compressor. Pulley ? or a bracket loose banging away at something or ?? I had a hose bumping my alternator on another car. Came out of its holder to keep it out of the way. Strapped it back and no more noise.

This is what I was originally referring too as the clicking. The compressor cycling on and off. OP, what best describes your noise and duration of it.
