Default AC help

Been working on my 98 XJ since I got it a few months ago and now I have turned my focus to the AC, checked the pressure to see if it was just low on Freon, low side was around 20 when the compressor would cycle but the high side rocketed up to 500 before I could shut it down.

Needles to say I think I have a blockage on the high side. I see the orifice is in the line itself so have to get a new line but any common places for blockages on these? I am really hoping it's not the condenser.

Anyone have this issue before and what steps did you take in fixing the issue?

Thanks

Here's what we did on our '98 after the compressor went. Removed the accumulator/dryer, the liquid line/orifice tube, the hose manifold and compressor. A few bolts, electric plugs and quick connects and all that stuff is gone. Poured a/c flush from the parts store into both the evaporator and condenser and blew both out with compressed air several times.

Installed new accumulator/dryer, new liquid line orifice tube, new hose manifold and new completely drained compressor. Added 8.1 ozs. total PAG100 oil to the system (1/2 to the dryer, 1/2 to the compressor). Buttoned it all up and drove it to a a/c shop/pro. Told them the system was properly oiled and had them pull a vacuum and add r134a per the under hood sticker. 4 years later, low/mid 30s at the center vents.

That wouldn't be to bad considering my compressor is still working, if I don't have to replace the condenser shouldn't be to terribly expensive.

Thanks for the reply.

IIRC, a new accumulator/dryer and liquid line/orifice tube (both are filters and should be replaced) run about $100-$110 total.

U need to remove/drain the compressor and flush the hose manifold before adding new oil.

Will do, thanks again. It's funny, half the time I don't run the AC as I enjoy the wind but other times I don't want to do without, here in N.C the humidity can really kick your *** some days. Think it was easier when my cars just didn't have it.
