Belts squeel when i first turn the car on and use the AC/heat. especially when i lay on the gas. once i start going it goes away, but it souns like i drive a POS as i go down my block. I already tried tightening and loosening the belts. could the compressor be bad?

i'm willin to bet u any money that its ur alternator. Mine does the same thing.... kuz of my subwoofer, speakers and head unit, there is alotttt of draw on my battery and when i throw on the defrost in the winter or the heat/A/c on anythin higher than the "2" setting, it will squeel untill the rpms get back up. A sure fire way to check it (i did this accidentally) is to go out at night, do your normal routine but watch the brightness of your headlights. If they go from dim to bright when the screeching stops, then its ur alternator.

Well for me it only happens when i turn on the A/C. Doesn't happen when i put the heat on. I've been told it's the belt sliping on one of the pulleys because of the more workload. But just like yours i can either let it run for a little bit and then take off or just listen to it scream going out of my coldisac(forget how to spell that). As for me it depends if my neihbor is home because i hate him.
