Default AC fan

Im fixing the AC system in my xj but its lacking the stock electric fan. Do I need to hunt one down? Or will I be ok with just the mechanical fan

The XJs with AC all had the electric fan in addition to the mechanical fan. In that so many folks have overheating issues with both, I would suggest that you find an electric fan.

Get the electric fan a.s.a.p. You need that fan to cool the condensor down when the ac is running. Your Jeep will overheat or come close to it with only 1 fan.

Without knowing what year XJ, some have posted that 00/01 models "kick" the efan on at 218F coolant temp, not when a/c is turned on.

Yes, you are correct on that. Having done AC work for a living, I cannot understand for the life of me why they did it that way. That condensor needs to be cooled.

Not many vehicles have both efan and mechanical fan. I doubt the XJ would have a efan if it had a 18"-19" tall cond/rad and mechanical fan to go with it.

The problem is total cfm's across the coils to both the radiator and condensor. you're right, most cars don't come with both a mechanical and electric fan but nowadays they do come with dual electric fans. My 07 Altima has 2 now. I actually looked in to getting another stock set up for an Altima and try it in the XJ but the clearances and measurements are all wrong. So I just added another stock AC fan and I'm all good.

Put in a big enough (square inch front surface area) cond/rad, and a single fan will be more than ample.

What cfm fan rating would you recommend for an XJ?

Haven't got a clue about what cfm....a 31"X19" rad would make fan cfm a non-issue.

Have hi-jacked or what.....sorry to the OP.
