ac connection
00 xj I am putting a 96 engine into. As Im doing this I'm noticing some things missing or different in the 00 (got it without an engine).
Right now I am trying to figure out my AC system. In the 96 there are 2 metal lines that come from the firewall above where the rubber hoses for the heater core? are. These lines immediately bolt into a metal block. In the 00 one metal line goes into the top of the metal canister in the upper passenger corner. The other line is about 1.5' from the fire wall and is cut.
Any ideas on how these lines are run?

very helpful! I appreciate it.
In the '96 there was a black canister under these lines. 3 ports on top. Nothing in the 00 but the mounting holes were there so I moved this to the 00. What goes to these 3 ports/nipples on top of the canister.

I think you need to configure your 2000 AC system like a 2000 AC system, and not try and add 1996 AC system components.

What CCKen says.
I have a 1996 that I just redid AC system for, and looking over the parts lists showed me how unusual the 1996 year model was. The 2000 model has different condenser connections, hoses, and compressor. It probably uses different amounts of R134 and PAG oil.
Just build it like a 2000 and you will be fine.

You can get some things done.
The AC Compressor bracket (that has the fan clutch bearing in it) is good for 1996 - 2001. The 1996 fan and clutch will work.
The alternator bracket, and related bits, are the same for 1996 - 2001.
For the AC compressor not being installed you can get the AC Compressor bypass pulley from O'reilly auto parts.

Winter is coming anyway so address the other AC system bits for next summer.
How are you going to address the exhaust system?
