I'm looking at replacing my ac compressor and was wondering if one from a 92 yj with a 4.0 will work on my 98 xj 4.0

 

i'll bump this since i have kind of the same question... the compressors off most 4.0 motors look the same as what came in the cherokees (i'm sure there are subtle differences in them that i have no idea about). Being that my 2000 XJ didn't even have an AC compressor in it when i bought it, i am definitely going to need one. My concern is going to a junk yard will result in a couple different situations; the compressor i pick is bad, its not the right one, or they wont have any XJs and i will be forced to hunt for one.

surely there is a write up on here, or another forum/site that can offer some insight as to whether or not all Jeep AC compressors are equal on the 4.0 motors, or not.
