AC Compressor and Drier Video+Question
Hey Guys,
I just uploaded a video to Youtube of how I installed my new compressor and drier:
One question I have before the system is evacuated, leak checked, and charged: Are there supposed to be gaskets on the lines going into the drier? When I removed them there were none, but also there wasn't any oil in the drier either. This leads me to two possible conclusions: 1) They dont need them or 2) The last guy was lazy, didn't install them, which may have led to the system failure in the first place. Im leaning towards 2, but wanted to double check with some people more familiar with the AC system.
Thanks guys!

I completely rebuilt my A/C about three years ago, all new components except the evap core. It had never been opened up before, I've owned my '90 since new. There were no gaskets or o-rings at the rcvr/drier coupling. I was a bit surprised by this myself, but put the vacuum pump on it and drew the vacuum for about 45 minutes, shut the pump down, and let it sit for awhile with no leakdown. Then filled 'er up with R-12 (yeah, I bought a 30lb can of it way back when) and it's been good ever since. That's my experience, but I would suggest that you let it sit for awhile under vacuum also to double check for sealing in the entire system. If it'll hold vacuum, it shouldn't leak.
