I have a 96 xj with the 4.0,that i bought recently but all the ac syastem is missing. I have a 91 xj with the 4.0 with a bad motor. I was wondering if I can take all the ac components off the the 91 and put them on the 96? Any help would be great.
probably because no one has done it. did this 96 come stock with no ac? swapping an ac system into a vehicle is a tremendous PIA and one of the few things most people just wont bother with. i am pretty sure it would work provided you swap the complete system from the 91 over, it will just be a LOT of work.
i have a 1990 basic model that i have upgraded to almost all better options. i would love to get ac in it, but i have decided it is just too much work. instead i am going to buy a newer(97-00) model with ac and power options stock in the near future.

I think youll find suble differences, but if you get pics and compare a 96's setup to the 91's you should see what you need.
91 would be an R-12 system, whereas the 96 would have been R134a. The changeover occured sometime in 94. My 94 had factory R134a, while my wifes 94 had R12. now that i think about it i think the compressor and hoses were different.
You'll need to collect pics, maybe take a ride to a JY.
