Out with the old and in with the new. Or can't you use chrisfix's when talking about problems.
The cherokee (92' 4.0 HO - 270.000km's) makes a noise when starting the engine. After opening the hood, I found the noise to be comming from the A/C compressor.
My first instinct was to turn the A/C on. After doing this, I found that the A/C clutch started spinning and the noise was gone.
To confirm: the A/C makes a noise (grinding?) when the clutch is NOT engaged (A/C turned off).
It has been making noise when turned on, the last few months. For now I'll drive with the A/C always on.
Ofcourse I'm looking to fix this. What should I do?
Edit: My ideas
1. maybe the clutch doesn't disengage fully?
2. bearing problem?

Found the problem... One of the springs is broken, so it scrapes the pulley. No more a/c for me until I get a new clutch.
I removed the fan cover and bolt on the A/C clutch.
But I can't seem to get the clutch off? I tried using 2 screwdrivers but can't seem to get it loose?
What should I do?
