Hey guys, I’ve read almost every similar forum to my problem that exists on this site. But today I finally have to make my own. I have a 1999 XJ, 4.0 AW4 trans. It is RHD and was built for export to the UK, but I believe it was sold before export for use as a mail delivery rig. It ran perfect with no issues until I put a hole in my radiator last year and overheated it, cracking the block (verified by machine shop). Last weekend I put a used engine in from a salvage yard that was tested at 134ish psi (I have verified all 6 are within 10% of each other at 134 myself). The engine had a flywheel on it, so I put my flexplate on from my old engine. I drained all the fuel from my tank and refilled, wouldn’t start. Verified I have 46 psi at the rail, verified no fuel injectors leaking with the rail lifted up and key on. I didn’t have super blue spark, so I put a brand new dizzy, coil and all new wires and plugs in and now have great spark. Tried a new crank sensor from Chrysler and also my old one, still won’t run. The dizzy is 100% for sure at TDC on the compression stroke, I even tried 180° off just in case I was wrong, still no dice. I cleaned and resistance tested all grounds, have 5v on pins 1 and 3 to the crank sensor. My firing order is 100% for sure correct. Brand new CMP with the new dizzy. No codes present. It tries to start to an extent, but sounds exactly like it’s out of time. Anyone have anything else I could check? Sorry for the long post, I’m just extremely lost. I’m a technician at a dealership and have never been so confused.

 

I should also mention that the ASD relay and fuse have been tested and are fine, and that I do get CMP and CKP SYNC on my scan tool

Im chasing a stoppage issue and have to trouble shoot the ASD relay. Just where is this relay on my 92 Larado?

 

Did you orient the flexplate correctly? If it is out of line, it will cause the car not to start.

 

One of the crank bolt holes is offset so it only bolts on one way.
