ABS light on, then gone?

ABS light on, then gone?
Was driving around and noticed the ABS light was on, it stayed on for the whole trip, but brakes were behaving normally. Next time I got in the vehicle and started it up, light went out like normal and I have not seen it again. Any thoughts on what this could be? Do I have impending ABS issues? Fluid levels and everything with an external visual inspection appear to be fine.
This is on a '96 Cherokee Classic. The check engine light is not on, but would this perhaps store an obdII code that could give me more info?
