I have a question about my 89 cherokee automatic , last time i put it in 4x4 it would jump out in four hi but not in 4 lo and shortly after that im hearing a whining sound going down the road sounds similar to a bearing going out, but i can put it in neutral going 55mph and it gets quiet i was wondering if anyone else has experienced these symptoms and if they are related ?

Trans in N or Transfer Case in N?
If your shifting the trans into N, then it's the Transfer Case since the Trans in N doesn't transmit power to the output shaft. Kinda sounds like my 231 Transfer Case, I had to adjust the linkage and then it stopped jumping out of range and whining and grinding and stuff...
