Default 99 xj radio problems

Ok, my jvc radio stopped working, it has power and everything comes on but no sound, but randomly while im driving the sound will come on and randomly cut off. I know its not the head unit b/c i took it out and pluged it in in my wife's car and it worked perfectly. The wiring harness is wired up correctly and the connections are good no shorts in the wiring at least on my part. Please help i don't know what else to do.

You said you checked ALL connections right? If so, I think I might know the problem because I know a couple people with JVC head units that have this problem.... I need to know some info to help you....

How many speakers are hooked up to the head unit right now?

What is the rated output power of the head unit?

How much power do your speakers draw each?

If you're drawing too much power from the head unit, this problem will occur. It can happen from turning the volume up too high, too many speakers, or too much power draw from your speakers. You can fix this by buying an amp and hooking the speakers into that first. Hopefully that's the problem because its not too serious... Good luck man!

Well if you have the infinity sound package or something there could be way too much power draw.... If it's just generic jeep speakers you SHOULD be fine. The head unit doesn't put out too much power so I recommend buying an amp (it'll make your speakers sound better too! ) it doesn't have to be anything huge but it DOES HAVE TO BE A 4 Channel because you're running 4 speakers. You can probably be fine with buying something cheap from wal mart even (amps are pretty much all the same, so the cheaper one will still perform good).

Here's an example on what you should go for

or if you're not on a budget and want brand name

Good luck buddy! I hope this is the fix! If it isn't don't hesitate to contact me and ask me some more questions, I love helping people out with car audio!
