99 xj carpet in a 92 xj.... will it fit?
hey guys, been lurking around for hours, cant find a solid answer.the capet in my 92 is wasted, so I went to the junk yard today and found a 99 that has almost perfect carpet and headliner.... they want $80 for both..... will these two items go rite in with no mods? Thanks
The rear carpet probably, but there was a change to how the front seats are mounted to the unibody between the early & late models. While I don't know the split date for sure, I would think that in your '92 the front 2 bolts of the front seats bolt vertically through the floorboard (just like the rear). On the later models ('99 included), they added a support beam up front, and the front seat front bolts attach horizontally thought that support. Its the support that will prevent the front carpet from cleanly fitting into your '92.... but the good news is that there will be TOO MUCH material, and not too little. If you are okay with a wrinkle seam along where the front seats match (and with creating new access holes for the seats & cutting a new e-brake access hole), then it will technically "fit".
