99 xj auto HELP
I'm pretty sure the trans is out in my xj I can put it gear but nothing happens it won't move at all but there's no grinding noises or anything and I checked the fluid there's no shavings in it so could it possible be a sensor or something else???

First - make sure that you cant push it when the trans is in park, this will elimimate the transfercase as a problem.
Second - check the trans fliud before you start the engine, start the engine and mqake sure that the fluid level drops.
Third - what trans do you have?
Sadly it WILL NOT be a sensor.......drive and reverse are selected by a valve that is connected to the linkage so if your linkage is still hooked up it would move one direction of the other.

So it sounds like the forward clutch in applying to slow down the engine....does it rev free like it's in neutal or does it act like you are power braking it?

The Trans is toast.
Be sure to flush out the lines and cooler, this is very important.
Your favorite parts store should be able to get some for you.
