ASD Circuit.
12 volts from ignition switch to the ASD relay; when the key is first turned on the PCM provides a ground to the ASD relay to energize it, then the ASD relay passes 12 volts to the coil primary side. If no crank sensor signal is generated after a couple of seconds the PCM cuts the ground to the ASD relay (and fuel pump relay too) and that cuts power to the coil (and fuel pump). Key to START and once again the PCM energizes the ASD relay. Now, a critical element is the crank sensor--no signal from the crank sensor and the PCM won't trigger the coil to provide spark.

I was waiting in line at a stop sign and the jeep just died and wouldnt start back. I checked all the fuses and they looked to be fine. Then I also just replaced the CPS since those are notorious for just stopping and still didnt start. Last time this happened I just unplugged the speedometer sensor since it no longer works and it started right up. THis time that trick didnt work. The reason I dont have a speedometer is I put an sye on and it worked for a bit and then it ate up the AA plastic gear. I am getting fuel. I am not getting fire out of the coil. So something is stopping it from firing. Thanks for the help in advance.

The coil is bolted to the block. The ground wire runs from the battery to the block just under the coil, to the body beside the battery and it is also secure from the head to the body under the windshield. Air well I can run outside and put my hand over the intake and crank it if you would like, but I assure you it is just fine. I have never heard of a plugged air filter throwing a p1389 code. I really am not trying to be a jerk here I promise, but we have already established that there is no spark.

just a thought ...have you tried to start it in Nut. not Park... if it is an auto
Yes I tried that and to wiggle it back and forth. The only thing it did was stop the starter from turning over and the when i placed it back into park it started to crank again. Just didnt start.

Ok so most of today was spent on the jeep. I ran the tests that free sent me the link to and am now still without a running jeep. I am still not getting any voltage to the coil. I checked the continuity from the coil wire (green with orange strip) to the computer which is plug 12 in the grey conector and it is good. I am getting voltage into port 3 of the plug so I know power is getting into it and for some reason the asd relay is not letting power to go to the coil. I have checked and there is power at the asd relay but it will not open the relay and allow power to flow. I am not getting any readings between plug 30&87 which are power to flow to the coil. So for some reason the computer is not allowing the asd switch to kick over and let it activate. It just clicks when you try to start it. Since monday I have replaced the Battery,CPS,Coil,ALl the relays, Checked all the fuses, and also checked the grounds. I also pulled the fuse box that is under the hood apart to make sure all plugs were in the spot and not corroded, and all are in good shape. So all of that pointed to the computer. I also have a 96xj and an extra computer from a 00. So just for giggles i walked over and started the 96 and then unplugged the computer and then plugged my 99 computer in and it started right up and ran just fine. So I then plugged in all 3 computers into the 99 to see if anything would change and nothing did. Still no voltage to the coil. So...... Where do I go from here? (also all my guages work just fine and my neutral switch on tranny functions properly)
