Default 99 cherokee, no power, nothing, no start, Annoying

i have a 99 cherokee. wantiing to know if anyone lese has ran into this problem. I was driving down the road and the jeep just shut off. Then i try to restart it and it has no power no nothing. NO light, no cranking, NOTHING... i checked fuses and battery terminals and everything seems fine. Im thinking a reply or some kind of fuse, that controls all the power. Has anyone ran into this problem before and what did you do to replace it or to fix it. Where should i be looking or what are you suggestions. I ran out of ideas.

ya i looked at those and they look fine. But my concern is i was driving down the road and it shut off. So thats why i think it had to be something like a relay or a fuse, that controls all the electricial power in the jeep. If my cables were bad, i dont think it i would suddenly shut off while i was driving.

Your starter cables are loose. Get under her and look for three wires that feed into it and are held in place by bolts. Take them off and remove all the oil (use alcohol or a solvent) and use a wire brush on them. Little dielectric grease wouldn't hurt too. Tighten them up and check your grounds, from the battery to the engine block to the firewall.

Does your radio work? I know you said nothing, but I had a similar problem however my radio would still work even when the car would not turn over or crank. See post:

radio not working, nothing, no door lock, no horn, no interior light, no headlight, have nothing. seems like what happens when you have a completely dead battery but my battery is good and all the cables. im thinking something with the fuses/ replys but u have no clue where to start. I was hoping that someone ran accross this same issue to help me fix fast..

I know you said your battery is good but have you checked it with a meter? If you have a meter, just start at your battery and try to find where you loose power. I'm not sure but it sounds like a fusable link may have opened up. Someone else may correct me but I dont think there is a common relay that would cause your symptoms.

Mine didn't die while it was running, but everything checked out fine, and was tight, but didn't have ANY power to anything, well it was the el-cheapo battery terminals that were so corroded that they wouldn't even work anymore. It wouldn't even get juice with jumper cables.

Have you tried jump starting it? Just to see if it powers up.

Check the fuse under the hood, there should be a main power.

Ya i checked the battery and it has 13 volts, checked all the fuses under the hood and they were all fine. I did a quick check on the inside fuses but didnt pull them out considering they are in an ackward spot. I was think more of the fuses under the hood becasue they are bigger and control more of the high power. the only thing i can think about doing next is getting wiring diagrams and start chasing, I was just hoping that someone else came to this power before also.. But not loooking like it. PLus not finding and other info on the web either

1. Verify your engine GROUNDS. Can't tell by looking at them. You really should freshen them. That means removing them, cleaning until shiny, reattaching. The one that is subject to deterioration is the one from the cylinder head to the firewall. The braided ground is weak.

2. As mentioned, check the battery. If the battery suffered a catastrophic short, it is a possibility. A long shot, but it is possible. Gotta eliminate the simple things when you are troubleshooting. Any parts store will load test the battery for you. Load testing is the only way to accurately determine battery condition.

Hey chadtheman did you get it figured out? I'm have the same issue, but mine started in the garage. Turned the key on, all the gages started up. Turned the ignition on and everything went out (cut right off), turned the key on again, same thing. Lights, gages...turn key to start and all went dead. Tried a third time and it started, drove to work fine. Got ready to go home, same thing, but about the third try and nothing. No gages, no dome light, not radio no power locks. Had to get a ride home. Trying to make sense of this.
Any luck with yours?

I had this happen earlier this year and the terminals on the battery cables were bad. The lead was literally torn, but you couldn't see it from the top.

I had 13 volts at the battery posts. I had like 4 volts at the power distribution center (the fuse box under the hood).

Went to the store, bought a replacement positive cable, and when I went to remove the old one the terminal disintegrated.
