Hello All,

I just picked up a 99 jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L / Auto... Been cleaning it up and fixing some of the things that were broken that the previous owner just ignored..

I am working on the door locks, The alarm should lock and unlock the doors but it does'nt work on any of the four doors but all the motors seem to run fine.. I have taken them out and I am sure the plastic gears are stripped inside,

Is there a rebuild kit I can get for this or do I have to replace entire lock... All the motors for the locks work great just seems the gears are stripped..

Any help much appreciated...

Thanks,
Ant.

So are you saying the remote doesn't lock the doors, the switch doesn't, or both?

The remote is fine,

The actuators are no good. The motors run but they do not move the lock to unlock or lock the doors. I am sure the plastic gears are shot..I was wondering if there is a kit to rebuild them or do I have to replace the entire actuators and door latch..

Thanks

Ant.

Gotcha. Wasn't totally clear on the issue at hand. Can't help ya with that part, but I will say I highly doubt there is a kit.

Looks like a new actuator is ~ $50, probably not worth replacing them all, just do the drivers door.

I wish I can do that, But I can't..

If I am gonna do one, I will fix them all... I can't help it.. Just the way I am.. I want all to work the way it should. If NOT, I will not be able to sleep at night..

Thanks, Ant.

I replaced all 4 actuators when I had my 89 Cherokee. I bought them for $25 a piece off of amazon. They are universal ones but worked great and they were pretty easy to install. It took a little tinkering to get them hooked up but over all I would rate the job 3 out of 10 in hardness. I can't remember the brand just do some google search's. Also make sure its actually the actuators and not the passenger side door switch. Apparently the passenger side door switch houses the relays for the door locks.
