Default 99 Cherokee Many Issues

So recently my in laws gave me our 1999 Cherokee Limited back and i canot believe what they did to it. It has 196k on it, 4.0L inline 6. There are more issues but these are the high priority ones.

Problem #1- Bogging down at low rpm or intial throttle to get going. Starts to rev, bogs down and sputters until you hit the throttle harder or continue low rpm till it gets back in its groove. I have done searching and have found a lot of guessing at high rpm but not low rpm.

Problem #2- A LOT of play in the steering wheel. After a 90 degree turn you have to over steer (turning left and have to go back right much more than you should or will stay pulling left). Its like theres a notch you have to steer past in order to go back straight.

Problem 1. Could be TPS. Search forum or get a service manual to check resistance. Could be throttle cable. Actually could be several things but if start with the simple easy to check, cheap to replace parts 1st.

Problem 2. Sounds like steering gear may be either slipping or going out. Check linkage and adjustment. Go from there.

Good luck.

Thank you Gunny,

I like the sound of replacing the cheapest part first. Will look up the resistance and check that. I wondered if it could be the linkage but have none else for a few days to move the steering so i can watch it.

There are plenty more issues however was pulled away at the last second for a family emergency, so just hit post and ran. Ill be updating that first post when i can.

Theres fan control issues, dipping oil pressure, 4wd problem, starting problems, and a whole list. One thing at a time though.
