Default 99 cherokee darts in 4WD

After owning a 78 CJ7 for a few years I decided to purchase a 99 Cherokee to use as my dd. Its got just 100,000 miles and runs great. The problem I've having is in 4wd. If the roads are snow, ice and payment combination the Jeep darts around alot. Its actually feels like its fighting itself in the front end for direction. I had it aligned. I have checked for like gear ratios(long shot) and am looking for any ideas you may have or if you had a similar problem. I like this SUV, but I can't let my wife drive it like this. Thanks for your help in advance

Can you clarify on the idea that it darts. Does it seem to pull left or right, or does it just randomly yank the wheel all over the place?

Lastly does the jeep have good tires. I find with old, or very cheap tires, the jeep decides where it wants to go. With good tires, I thankfully get to decide the direction of travel.

Does it have a locker in the front?

Thanks for the replies. No locker in the front. Checked that right away. It randomly yanks the wheel when the XJ enters and exits slippery spots on the roads. If the 2 drivers tires are on dry payment and the 2 passengers tires are on snow covered roads it like driving a late-model dirt track car. It almost feels like the gear ratios don't match. I have checked both tags and they confirm 3.55. I need to pull the covers. I was also thinking about checking the O.D of the front tires compared to the rear tires to make sure they are close. They are both speced the same. I actually have felt the rear end of the jeep get squirrely on slippery roads when going 45mph in a straight line. I have drove alot of 4x4's and never have experienced the "fighting" on which direction we are going in this XJ.
