I have to assume this is an extremely common problem.

There is a piece of steel tube that was tack welded to keep the sides spread apart. I tried running some sheet metal screws since I didn't have time to weld it.

Is there a better seat that folks are using?

Needs to be fairly inexpensive.

If not, I'll have to tear into it & weld it.

Mine was busted in several places when I bought the XJ. I pulled the material out of the way and welded everything back together. We'll see how long it lasts, but it's good for now.

 

Mine broke, just replaced it with the seat from a '94 Grand Cherokee. Not sure if it's any stronger or not, but it was a direct fit onto the XJ rails.
