Default 98 XJ Mystery Connector

Anyone know what this connector goes to?

It is a 5 cavity connector near the center of the dash. The center three cavities are used; blue/white wire, red/white wire, black wire.

I was in the U-Pull yard today and found this connector on a 2000 model. It was plugged into the temperature control **** on the HVAC control head. My 98 has a cable controlled temperature door. This connector is not listed in a 98 factory service manual either.

No real help here. It's common that the wiring harness has connectors for all sorts of stuff your Jeep might not have. The harness's are not custom for every configuration.

I think that could make sense, because the latest years ('01/'00 and maybe late '99) had a servo/motor operated and the years before that a cable operated blend door, IIRC.

Yeah, I've got a plug dangling around on the driver's edge of the engine bay where the room-sized HAL9000 computer would plug into should I have ABS.

You're right, that is the temp cntrol connector for the '99-'01 XJ.

The servo controlled Blend-Air Door was introduced in model year 1999.

If your '98 was built late in the production year the factory may have started to install '99 wiring in it. This is not unheard of with XJ's.
