Default 98 Limited Fuel Question

Hello, I am new to XJ Cherokee's but many years ago owned an '77 with a 258. I just bought a '98 limited for my wife and have not been able to find much about the Fuel delivery components.

For one is the pump suction strainer the only filter? The FPR is on top of the tank? Can anyone point me to a source of more information?

I'd also be interested in MPI wiring diagrams/ pinout if someone could point me in that direction.

Thank you.

Here's what the fuel pump module looks like:

The fuel pressure regulator/filter is mounted on top of the module.

There are three filters in the pump module system. One on the bottom of the module, one in the module, and one inside of the regulator.

You can buy ($7.95) pdf download of the FSM from Pacific Coast Manuals .com that will have all the wiring diagrams.

Dam that is a great photo set for that post! The manuals are an excellent investment for only $7.95 and IMHO one everyone who owns an XJ should have .

Thanks for the info, very useful. I have a factory Manual on order. Any ready online source for wiring diagrams and pin-outs? Are the one mentioned of the typical configuration" variety? That is a good price.

The manual that Pacific Coast Manuals sells is model year specific.

Go to their website and you'll see all the years available.

The only comment I have about these folks is that I bought a '96 FSM and it turned out to be a '97 FSM. I emailed them about it and never got a reply.

I needed a '97 FSM for my library so I wasn't that pi$$ed. Bought a '98 FSM from them and it was spot on.

Still can't find a pdf '96 FSM (that's cheap).

The pic of the fuel pump module I posted above is an Airtex module.

DO NOT get/use an Airtex fuel pump module in your Jeep. They are crap and usually die a crib death.

Use only a Bosch (Original factory pump) or a Carter pump module.

I bought the PCM and it was certainly a great value for the price. Thanks CCKen for the excellent information.

The carter pump I bought has a Pentastar tag on it.

That's odd. If you still have it, could you take a pic of the 'tag' and post it here.

How do you know it's a Carter pump you bought?

I forgot I had this account.

Pump installed along time ago. I believe the image of the pump from Summit Racing had the penta star tag not the unit I received. Its a Carter pump, came in a Carter box but I was wrong, no penta star tag.
